AMORIS EXSUL: 6. FORESHADOWINGS by ARTHUR WILLIAM SYMONS

Poet Analysis

First Line: IT WAS YOUR SILENCE THAT I LOVED
Last Line: WITHOUT A WORD WE MEET AGAIN.
Subject(s): LOVE; SILENCE;

It was your silence that I loved,
Musical pauses of a fine
Remoter harmony that moved
Across your spirit's boundary line.

Ah! in what visions have I heard,
Musical lips, eloquent eyes,
How many a song without a word,
Divine demands, subtle replies!

All that Love ever had to say
Your eyes have said to me, in vain.
Hopeless, estranged, unchanged, to-day
Without a word we meet again.
