BLIND (2) by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: IS THEN THE LIGHT SO NEAR
Last Line: ALAS, BUT CANNOT SEE!
Subject(s): BLINDNESS; VISUALLY HANDICAPPED;

Is then the light so near
That seems so far to me?
E'en so about us here
All vanished joys may be.

Time's chrysalis outgrown,
The garments that they wore --
Sight, smell, touch, taste, and tone --
They heed them now no more;

For deep to answering deep
Calls through eternity,
E'en as these tears I weep,
Alas, but cannot see!
