FORESHADOWED by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: SWALLOW, WITH THE SPRING RETURNING
Last Line: MOURNS THAT DOOMFUL PROPHECY.
Subject(s): SWALLOWS;

Swallow, with the spring returning,
In thine absence change hath been.
Dost thou mark the lonely places
Where no more my love is seen?
Never maiden welcomed thee
Home with lighter heart than she.

Flitting in the golden sunshine
Oft thy shadow o'er us strayed.
Still we smiled, nor recked the warning
Of a life-dividing shade;
Now, alas, the world to me
Mourns that doomful prophecy.
