LIGHT IN DARKNESS (1) by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: THE DAY - OF SORROW PITILESS
Last Line: THE DAWN-EXTINGUISHED STAR.
Subject(s): DAY; NIGHT; BEDTIME;

The day -- of sorrow pitiless --
Proclaims, "He is not here."
But never hath the tenderness
Of night denied thee near.

Nay, within the twilight sympathy
Returning from afar,
She wakes again from memory
The dawn-extinguished star.
