THE ANNUNCIATION (1) by JOHN BANISTER TABB

First Line: AH! NAUGHT IN HEAVEN, DIVINITY BENEATH
Last Line: IN HERS PORTRAYED.
Subject(s): ANNUNCIATION, THE; MARY. MOTHER OF JESUS; WOMEN - BIBLE; WOMEN IN THE BIBLE; VIRGIN MARY;

Ah! naught in Heaven, Divinity beneath,
So pure as is this lily-gleam of earth
Whereat the highest angel holds his breath,
In telling of a God's incarnate birth.

Then, if I render love
Through her, Thou must approve
The tribute paid;
For 'tis Thy Holy Face,
Not Caesar's, that I trace
In hers portrayed.
