SOLITUDE (2) by ROYALL TYLER

First Line: HAPPY THE MAN WHO LIVES RETIRED
Last Line: IN BRIGHTEST DAY.
Subject(s): SOLITUDE; LONELINESS;

HAPPY the man who lives retir'd,
Far from the noisy scenes of life,
Whose soul for honours never fir'd,
Nor vex'd with strife.

Whose utmost wish, whose utmost care
"A few paternal acres bound;"
Whose feeling heart gives comfort where
Grief sits around.

Thus free from care, from trouble free,
"Days, months and years roll sweet away;"
When life shall close, his spirit be
In brightest day.
