RETRIBUTION by AMOS RUSSEL WELLS

First Line: WHENCE CAME THIS LOAD THAT BENDS ME TO THE GROUND?
Last Line: "THE SADNESS YOU HAVE BROUGHT TO OTHER SOULS."

Whence came this load that bends me to the ground?
"It is the weights you have on others bound."

What are these pains that through my being crash?
"The backward stings of your own scorpion lash."

What is this hissing that affrights my ear?
"The echo of your own harsh words you hear."

And what this woe that o'er my spirit rolls?
"The sadness you have brought to other souls."
