A DAUGHTER OF THE REVOLUTION by ANONYMOUS

Subject(s): DAUGHTERS;GUESTS;HOUSEHOLD EMPLOYEES;REVOLUTIONS; VISITING;SERVANTS;DOMESTICS;MAIDS;

ARISING slowly in his place,
Our gallant Washington
Bowed to his host with courtly grace,
His courtly visit done.

The little daughter hastened o'er,
In service and in pride,
Beside the narrow-panelled door
And held it open wide.

"A better office, little maid,"
He spoke, and touched her chin.
She shyly raised her eyes, and said,
"Please, sir, to let you in."
