IN PRAISE OF WOMEN by ANONYMOUS

First Line: I AM LIGHT AS ANY ROE
Last Line: "THERETO SHE PUT ALL HER MIGHT, / AND YET SHE HATH BOTH CARE AND WOE"
Subject(s): WOMEN'S RIGHTS; FEMINISM;

I am light as any roe
To preise womene where that I go.

To onpreise womene it were a shame,
For a woman was thy dame.
Our blessed lady bereth the name
Of all womene where that they go.

A woman is a worthy thing;
They do the washe and do the wringe;
"Lullay, lullay!" she dothe thee singe;
And yet she hath but care and wo.

A woman is a worthy wight;
She serveth a man both day and night;
Thereto she putteth alle her might;
And yet she hath but care and wo.
