LACEDAEMON by ANONYMOUS

First Line: "SPARTA, THE PROUD INVIOLATE CITY, SEES"
Last Line: AND WOLVES CAN HEAR NO BLEAT OF ANY SHEEP
Subject(s): "SPARTA, GREECE;"

SPARTA, the proud inviolate city, sees
Corinthian smoke across her river sweep:
Birds nest on earth and mourn for their lost trees,
And wolves can hear no bleat of any sheep.
