UNE ALLEE DU LUXEMBOURG, by GERARD LABRUNIE

Poem Explanation

First Line: THERE NOW. SHE'S PASSED, THAT SLIGHT
Last Line: GOOD-BYE, SMALL LIGHT THAT SHONE, %FRAGRANCE, WOMAN, MUSIC, %HAPPINESS...YOU ARE GONE!

She passed, the young girl
Lively and nimble like a bird
In her hand a shining flower,
In her mouth a new refrain.
She is perhaps the only one in the world
Whose heart would respond to mine,
Who coming into my deep night
With a single look would clear it up!
But no, - my youth is over…
Farewell, sweet ray that gave me, -
Perfume, young girl, harmony…
Happiness was passing, - it has fled!
