RUMMAGE, by HAYDEN CARRUTH Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Growing old in shabby clothes Last Line: Blowing in the wind Subject(s): Life | |||
Growing old in shabby clothes is a bewilderment for someone who wanted all his life to wear something handsome under the handsome sun. In darkness under the bent moon I bend to pick from the frozen road a shred of birch bark blowing in the wind. Used with the permission of Copper Canyon Press, P.O.
