ON THE INFLATION OF THE CURRENCY, 1919, by ROBERT FROST Poem Explanation Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: The pain of seeing ten cents turned to five! Last Line: They know what's best for them too well to laugh. Subject(s): Inflation (economics) | |||
The pain of seeing ten cents turned to five! We clutch with both hands fiercely at the part We think we feel it in -- the head, the heart. Is someone cutting us in two alive? Is someone at us cutting us in half? We cast a dangerous look from where we lie Up to the enthroned kings of earth and sky. They know what's best for them too well to laugh. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A DREAM OF JULIUS CAESAR by ROBERT FROST A PECK OF GOLD by ROBERT FROST A SUMMER'S GARDEN by ROBERT FROST A WINTER'S NIGHT by ROBERT FROST CAESAR'S LOST TRANSPORT SHIPS by ROBERT FROST CLEAR AND COLDER; BOSTON COMMON by ROBERT FROST DOWN THE BROOK by ROBERT FROST |
