Do you remember how in camp one day We boys awoke with shouts of joy to hear A fresh young gale in the forest plunge and rear And thrash our sylvan roof with boughs in play? Suddenly with a jolt some cloud gave way. Down came a flood, instilling frolic fear. It reached our bed from the open window near And brought us standing up from where we lay. We laughed at that. We flung the house door wide, Then waited till the rapid sky once more Turned darkest with the irrepressive tide, And then, when ripping leaves the wild downpour Was dashed to mist along the steps and path, We ran forth naked to the morning bath. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN |
