I AM BORNE ONWARD, by SARA TEASDALE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: I am borne onward from the faith of my fathers Last Line: They leant upon them -- I am alone. Alternate Author Name(s): Filsinger, Ernest B., Mrs. Subject(s): Solitude; Loneliness | |||
I am borne onward from the faith of my fathers, It is far behind me, like a fading song, But sometimes I am homesick for its triumphant certainties, I who must break my heart to learn the right from the wrong. All that I long for, shrink from or strive against, I must weigh in balances, frail but my own, My fathers each one had a guardian angel, They leant upon them -- I am alone. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN ABEYANCE by DENISE LEVERTOV IN A VACANT HOUSE by PHILIP LEVINE SUNDAY ALONE IN A FIFTH FLOOR APARTMENT, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS by WILLIAM MATTHEWS SILENCE LIKE COOL SAND by PAT MORA THE HONEY BEAR by EILEEN MYLES |
