THE WAVE, by SARA TEASDALE Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: I stood on the shore of the world Last Line: Vanished into the air. Alternate Author Name(s): Filsinger, Ernest B., Mrs. Subject(s): Love - Nature Of; Waves | |||
I stood on the shore of the world, As one might stand by the sea, And love, like a splendid wave Surged up the sand to me, Terrible, full of song, Bearing its crown with pride, But I feared the onward surge, Like a coward I turned aside. Love, like a broken wave, Ebbed and the sand was bare, Save where the flecks of foam Vanished into the air. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ON THE OREGON COAST; FOR WILLIAM STAFFORD by ROBERT BLY AT THE OCEAN HE STUDIES THE WAVES by STEPHEN DOBYNS SONG OF THE WAVE by ROBERT FROST NOVEMBER SURF by ROBINSON JEFFERS DOVER BEACH' - A NOTE TO THAT POEM by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH DOVER BEACH' - A NOTE TO THAT POEM by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH |
