THE OLD MEN, by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: Old men who have studied Last Line: Be yours! Subject(s): Old Age | |||
Old men who have studied every leg show in the city Old men cut from touch by the perfumed music -- polished or fleeced skulls that stand before the whole theater in silent attitudes of attention, -- old men who have taken precedence over young men and even over dark-faced husbands whose minds are a street with arc-lights. Solitary old men for whom we find no excuses -- I bow my head in shame for those who malign you. Old men the peaceful beer of impotence be yours! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AT EIGHTY I CHANGE MY VIEW by DAVID IGNATOW FAWN'S FOSTER-MOTHER by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE DEER LAY DOWN THEIR BONES by ROBINSON JEFFERS OLD BLACK MEN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A WINTER ODE TO THE OLD MEN OF LUMMUS PARK, / MIAMI, FLORIDA by DONALD JUSTICE AFTER A LINE BY JOHN PEALE BISHOP by DONALD JUSTICE TO HER BODY, AGAINST TIME by ROBERT KELLY SONG FROM A COUNTRY FAIR by LEONIE ADAMS A CELEBRATION by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS |
