WHEN THERE IS PEACE, by HENRY AUSTIN DOBSON Poet Analysis Poet's Biography First Line: When there is peace, our land no more Last Line: When there is peace. Alternate Author Name(s): Dobson, Austin Subject(s): Peace; World War I; First World War | |||
"WHEN there is Peace, our land no more Will be the land we knew of yore." Thus do our facile seers foretell The truth that none can buy or sell And e'en the wisest must ignore. When we have bled at every pore, Shall we still strive for gear and store? Will it be heaven? Will it be hell? When there is Peace? This let us pray for, this implore: That, all base dreams thrust out at door, We may in loftier aims excel And, like men waking from a spell, Grow stronger, nobler, than before, When there is Peace. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...D'ANNUNZIO by ERNEST HEMINGWAY 1915: THE TRENCHES by CONRAD AIKEN TO OUR PRESIDENT by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE HORSES by KATHARINE LEE BATES CHILDREN OF THE WAR by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE U-BOAT CREWS by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE RED CROSS NURSE by KATHARINE LEE BATES WAR PROFITS by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE UNCHANGEABLE by EDMUND CHARLES BLUNDEN A FANCY FROM FONTENELLE by HENRY AUSTIN DOBSON |
