DARKNESS IS THINNING, by GREGORY I Poet's Biography First Line: Darkness is thinning; shadows are retreating Last Line: Blessing and glory! Alternate Author Name(s): Saint Gregory The Great Subject(s): Prayer | |||
DARKNESS is thinning; shadows are retreating; Morning and light are coming in their beauty; Suppliant seek we, with an earnest outcry, God the Almighty! So that our Master, having mercy on us, May repel languor, may bestow salvation, Granting us, Father, of thy loving-kindness Glory hereafter! This, of his mercy, ever blessed Godhead, Father, and Son, and Holy spirit, give us, -- Whom through the wide world celebrate forever Blessing and glory! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN LISTEN, LORD: A PRAYER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON A PRAYER FOR THE FUTURE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) DIFFERENT WAYS TO PRAY by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAYER DURING A TIME MY SON IS HAVING SEIZURES by SHARON OLDS |
