BEAUTY, by ABU HAFS First Line: Upon her eyes they gazed Last Line: The world deep shadows fall. Subject(s): Beauty | ||||||||
Upon her eyes they gazed, And they were sore amazed; All wine-consumers find How wine consumer the mind. Her glances all men dread, But she still keeps her head; The bearer of the blade Needs not to be afraid. My eager eyes upleapt To greet her, and I wept; The clouds, that swim below The sun, with rain o'erflow. I weep, when I recall Her stature slim and tall; Upon his bough the dove Sighs his lament of love. She left me, and my breast A sombre grief oppressed; At sunset over all The world deep shadows fall. | Discover our poem explanations - click here!Other Poems of Interest...GOD IS AN AMERICAN by TERRANCE HAYES VARIATIONS: 14 by CONRAD AIKEN DIVINELY SUPERFLUOUS BEAUTY by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE BEAUTY OF THINGS by ROBINSON JEFFERS HOPE IS NOT FOR THE WISE by ROBINSON JEFFERS LIFE FROM THE LIFELESS by ROBINSON JEFFERS REARMAMENT by ROBINSON JEFFERS |
