RECOMPENSE, by JESSE M. BALL ALLEN First Line: When sound shall cease, there being none to hear Last Line: Not failure, not defeat, but consummation! Subject(s): Future Life; God; Judgment Day; Retribution; Eternity; After Life; End Of The World; Doomsday; Fall Of Man | ||||||||
When sound shall cease, there being none to hear, When light shall fade, there being none to see, When time is lost in stark eternity, And very space itself is void and drear, Shall beauty end, oblivion draw near, And all our joy in living cease to be? Shall God refuse or fail to act? Must He And all His works, His pride, then disappear? Or shall the Creator of all things and the sense To enjoy them, then reveal a new creation? For all this ghastly loss make recompense? A realm of light beyond imagination, Delights beyond our best experience, -- Not failure, not defeat, but consummation! | Other Poems of Interest...A KNOCK ON THE DOOR by JAMES TATE ON ETHNIC DEFINITIONS by ELEANOR WILNER THE MARRIAGE OF HEAVEN AND HELL by WILLIAM BLAKE THE END OF THE WORLD by GORDON BOTTOMLEY 1X1 (ONE TIMES ONE): 20 by EDWARD ESTLIN CUMMINGS ONCE BY THE PACIFIC by ROBERT FROST ROBERT FROST RELATES THE DEATH OF THE TIRED MAN by LOUIS UNTERMEYER |
