PRINCETON, by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN Poet's Biography First Line: Reposeful spot horizoned by the stress Last Line: "and cries, ""the day!"" across the reddening dawn." Subject(s): Princeton, New Jersey | |||
Reposeful spot horizoned by the stress Of thunderous cities! Here stern Nature seems One verdurous peace, an atmosphere of dreams, With ever-lilting languorous caress. Yet everywhere a laborous mightiness, A fine vibration, youthly anvilled, streams, -- Felt music, muted clangor, wisdom's themes Turning to vantage for the world's redress. This is the armory of intellect Where swords of thought are wrought for lords of strife, The while th' enfreedomed spirit beats down brawn On the last lines of darkness, stands erect, Grasping the vision of dominion life, And cries, "The Day!" across the reddening dawn. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRINCETON by CHARLES WILLIAM KENNEDY MAY RAIN, PRINCETON by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER IN THE OLD GRAVEYARD, PRINCETON by FRANCIS CHARLES MACDONALD PRINCETON by HERBERT EDWARD MIEROW PRINCETON - 1917 by ALFRED NOYES PRINCETON: FEBRUARY, 1916 by EDMUND WILSON AT THE PRINCETON HOTEL by PETER E.
