RETURN, by KENNETH SLADE ALLING First Line: March stirs and like a shaggy beast he shakes Last Line: April: oh earth; let nothing now befall her. Subject(s): April; March (month); Spring | |||
March stirs and like a shaggy beast he shakes. The last and brightest rim of winter breaks, Roofed round him and the clattering ice bits fall. Far off and faintly, lo a madrigal Is heard, riding the wind, and faintly drums: And liquid, louder now a blithe hand strums Taut gold; and scattering silver fragrance comes, In terrible simplicity a child; A girl; a woman; anything that's wild And fosters wildness. April -- so they call her: April: Oh earth; let nothing now befall her. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SPRING LEMONADE by TONY HOAGLAND A SPRING SONG by LYMAN WHITNEY ALLEN SPRING'S RETURN by GEORGE LAWRENCE ANDREWS ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD ODE TO SPRING by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD SPRING FLOODS by MAURICE BARING SPRING IN WINTER by CHARLOTTE FISKE BATES SPRING ON THE PRAIRIE by HERBERT BATES THE FARMER'S BOY: SPRING by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A PRESENCE by KENNETH SLADE ALLING |
