Last Line: God will arrange as pearls on thy life's band.
Subject(s): Friendship

MANY have written on this book's fair pages,
I see that almost every one is full;
With wishes for all joy to thee, love's gages,
The tribute of each friend here you may cull.

While one doth warn you in life's darkest regions
Of storm and stress an upright man to be,
Another hopes that God His angel legions
With sunshine and rose-scents may send to thee.

'T is well; for all these things thou 'lt have occasion;
Both up and downward Life us leads in part;
But whether joy or grief should be thy portion,
Forever keep, young friend, thy childlike heart.

If this thou hast, all things in one thus wedding,
A heart that's pure will give pure lips and hand;
Each tear of sorrow thou 'lt some day be shedding
God will arrange as pearls on thy life's band.
