I LIFT MY CANDLE, by
First Line: I lift my candle as a shield
Last Line: Go slinking off in shame.
Subject(s): Candles; God; Night; Bedtime

I lift my candle as a shield
Against the creeping night,
And all the powers of darkness stay
Outside its ring of light.

My candle lifts in praise of God
Its pointed tongue of flame,
And all the evil things of night
Go slinking off in shame.
