REVENGE, by AVENZOAR First Line: Pillowing their cheeks all night Last Line: And now the wine rocks me. Alternate Author Name(s): Abu Marwun `abd Ad-malik Ibn Abi Al-`ala' Zuhr; Ibn Zuhr Subject(s): Revenge | ||||||||
Pillowing their cheeks all night On their hands, now suddenly The glow of dawning light Surprises them, and me. Ceaselessly their cups I filled, Sucking their superfluous wine Until my poor head reeled, And theirs no less than mine. So the liquor in its might Takes revenge remorselessly: I rocked the flask all night, And now the wine rocks me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A MOUNTAIN MOTHER by WILLIAM ASPENWALL BRADLEY DOG AFTER LOVE by YEHUDA AMICHAI THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN by ROBERT BROWNING MINE ENEMY IS GROWING OLD by EMILY DICKINSON THE LOVER PLEADS WITH HIS FRIENDS FOR OLD FRIENDS by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS |
