SONG FOR DECORATION DAY, by HELEN C. BACON First Line: Bring forth the flowers Last Line: Bright garlands strew o'er their graves everywhere. Subject(s): Holidays; Memorial Day; Declaration Day | |||
BRING forth the flowers, Sweet fragrant flowers, Born in the sunshine And sparkling with dew; Here while we sing, Gladly we bring Offerings meet for the brave and true. Daisies and buttercups, roses and lilies fair, Dainty forget-me-nots, violets blue. Bring forth the flowers, sweet fragrant flowers, Offerings sweet for the brave and the true. Heap high the flowers, Sweet-scented flowers, Bright garlands strew o'er their graves everywhere; While just above, The flag that we love Still floats its stars and stripes on the air. Flag of our Union, brave soldiers defend thee, Lay down their lives for thy color so fair, Heap high the flowers, sweet-scented flowers, Bright garlands strew o'er their graves everywhere. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORIAL DAY by JOSEPHINE MILES MEMORIAL DAY FOR THE WAR DEAD by YEHUDA AMICHAI MEMORIAL DAY by MICHAEL ANANIA AN ODE ON THE UNVEILING OF THE SHAW MEMORIA BOSTON COMMON, MAY 31, 1897 by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH FREDERICKSBURG by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH THE DEATH OF GRANT by AMBROSE BIERCE MEMORIAL DAY by WILLIAM E.
