I SHALL HAVE PEACE AGAIN (WRITTEN AFTER READING 'RIDERS TO THE SEA', by FLORA LOUISE BAILEY First Line: Now all are gone. The sea can do no more Last Line: For all are gone. I shall have peace again. Subject(s): Sea; Ocean | ||||||||
Now all are gone. The sea can do no more Than it has done to me in these past years. Life is again as tranquil as before They came to me, who filled my heart with fears. No longer need I watch the shore at night When the great storms rage, wild, across the bay; Or place before the leaded pane a light; Or kneel with aching heart and vainly pray. All grief that I shall ever know is past, For yesterday at dawn they brought to me, Wrapped in a sail and fastened to a mast, The last of all those taken by the sea. Now will my weary heart be free from pain For all are gone. I shall have peace again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS |
