LILIES: 25. THY LOVE-SERVICE, by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) First Line: Thou art like some sweet queen who gives her heart Last Line: Thou hast served servants. Thou shalt gladden kings! | ||||||||
Thou art like some sweet queen who gives her heart To zealous Psyche-service for a time, Till she shall gather wings and growth sublime And upwards towards the ancestral high heaven start! Mine endlessly, unceasingly, thou art, For I have kissed thee in some ancient clime And circled thee with immemorial rhyme; In truth our spirits never were apart. But now to this love-service thou art doomed, Though mine thou art in the inmost depth of things. Yet perhaps through this thy resurrection-wings, Glittering with dew, God's hand hath disentombed! Whiter and whiter hath my blossom bloomed: Thou hast served servants. Thou shalt gladden kings! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A PRAYER by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) A VINDICATION by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) AN ACTOR'S REMINISCENCES by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) AUTUMN MESSAGES by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) ENVOI: DEATH (1) by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) ENVOI: DEATH (2) by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) FOR EVER AND EVERMORE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) IF ONLY THOU ART TRUE by GEORGE BARLOW (1847-1913) LILIES: 1.
