LINES TO A FITFUL LOVER, by MIRIAM BARRANGER First Line: I thought that when you left Last Line: I really couldn't wait. Subject(s): Deception; Hearts; Love | ||||||||
I thought that when you left, Life, for me, would cease to be. Of love and pride and all bereft, And nothing more was left to me. It wasn't love, but only pride That lay there crushed and beaten. I see it now, too well, to hide, Since other dusts I've eaten. What stupid tears were shed for you Who now comes back so late. You see, my dear, that's over now I really couldn't wait. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD |
