UNEARTH, by ALFRED BARRETT First Line: Gardener of eden and gethsemane Last Line: Gardener of eden -- and gethsemane! | ||||||||
Gardener of Eden and Gethsemane, Gently unearth this rosebush that has grown In the sunken garden of my heart, and be Gentle to her who yields it yet unblown. Gardener of Eden, where this tender stem Henceforth will know the strength of other fingers, And these leaves brush another's garment hem -- You will not care if round the root there lingers Something of native soil to swell the bud Till that root sinks in You as once in me. . . . Unearth the rosebush of my flesh and blood, Gardener of Eden -- and Gethsemane! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...CHANT OF DEPARTURE; A MISSIONARY'S PRAYER by ALFRED BARRETT MON REPOS (MY MOTHER'S GIRLHOOD HOME) by ALFRED BARRETT THE ROSEBUSH AND THE TRINITY by ALFRED BARRETT THE SINGERS OF DELLA ROBBIA by ALFRED BARRETT THE DEATH OF A PHOTOGRAPHER by KAREN SWENSON A MORE ANCIENT MARINER by BLISS CARMAN A DEATH SONG by PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR THE AKOND [OR, AKHOND] OF SWAT by EDWARD LEAR POMONA by WILLIAM MORRIS (1834-1896) A COWBOY ALONE WITH HIS CONSCIENCE by JAMES BARTON ADAMS DOOMSDAY: TREASURES IN HEAVEN by WILLIAM ALEXANDER (1567-1640) |
