A TRIBUTE TO WILL ROGERS AND WILEY POST, by ROSETTA THORSON BEACHLER First Line: Oklahoma mourns her sons today Last Line: To realms of greater glory. Subject(s): Honor; Memory; Oklahoma | |||
Oklahoma mourns her sons today, And the nation mourns no less; We breathe their names with reverence And our tones bespeak distress. One sailed the air and circled the globe With skill and wondrous daring, The other encircled the hearts of men With strings that now are tearing. Upon the crowded stage of life, Each had made his bow, In his chosen work he took the lead And won laurels for his brow. They left this life together, And with no one to tell the story They sailed to another land, To realms of greater glory. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LINES WRITTEN IN DEJECTION, OKLAHOMA by GREGORY ORR DRIVING IN OKLAHOMA by CARTER REVARD OKLAHOMA by DAISY LEMON COLDIRON LAST ECSTASY by ALETHA CALDWELL CONNER OKLAHOMA by ELIZABETH WILLIAMS COSGROVE THE COAST OF OKLAHOMA by CHRIS FORHAN SONG OF THE COMANCHE COUNTRY by NEVILLE PEACE WIND SONG; OKLAHOMA ANNIVERSARY, APRIL 22 by ZOE AGNES STRATTON TILGHMAN THE WINSOME WEE THING by ROBERT BURNS |
