MARCH: A BULL ON THE HORIZON, by A. G. BECKMANN First Line: In the pale evening glacial yellow rims the west Last Line: Impatient in the dusk to pass the seed of his perfection. Subject(s): Bulls; March (month) | ||||||||
In the pale evening glacial yellow rims the west. The bound creek bears hollow sounds to the muskrat's nest. The shadow of a bull Withholds the light. His silhouette tyrannizes night, Bids winter halt. His muscles bulge With the proud and taut restraint of known fertility. He finds no fault when muzzling air He scents some earth-freed omen there. He treads across the frost-ruts, lost to light's reflection, Impatient in the dusk to pass the seed of his perfection. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AND AGAIN, MARCH IS ALMOST HERE by JOHN ASHBERY MARCH: A BIRTHDAY POEM by JOHN UPDIKE MARCH by WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS IN EARLIEST SPRING by WILLIAM DEAN HOWELLS THE SHEPHEARDES CALENDER: MARCH by EDMUND SPENSER TO MY SISTER by WILLIAM WORDSWORTH WRITTEN IN MARCH by WILLIAM WORDSWORTH |
