THE TREE ACROSS THE ROAD, by ELIZABETH KELTY BEITEL First Line: God never made a fairer thing! Last Line: Of autumn, in the wood. Subject(s): Autumn; God; Seasons; Spring; Trees; Fall | |||
God never made a fairer thing! For Autumn's goldsmith art Has turned the leaves to glistening sheen -- Forgotten is the living green, That clothed them in the Spring. Light filagree, in palest gold, Dark bronze where shadows fall, On bole and bough, the Chinese red Of lacquer, deftly, faintly, spread, With deep jade tints of mold. No artist but the Master could With lingering touch and sure, Transform the tender prince of Spring, Into this gorgeous, glittering king Of Autumn, in the wood. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...OUR AUTUMN by ELIZABETH AKERS ALLEN AN AUTUMN JOY by GEORGE ARNOLD A LEAF FALLS by MARION LOUISE BLISS THE FARMER'S BOY: AUTUMN by ROBERT BLOOMFIELD A LETTER IN OCTOBER by TED KOOSER AUTUMN EVENING by DAVID LEHMAN EVERYTHING THAT ACTS IS ACTUAL by DENISE LEVERTOV |
