First Line: These my last songs accept I wherein my muse
Last Line: He is the least deceiving god of all.


On sending her my last songs

THESE my last songs accept! wherein my muse
Paints love, who with me will no longer stay;
Vaunts glory, shade, which doth our hopes abuse,
Which one day gives and the next takes away.
The first a god for whom you nothing care,
The other doth your ardent soul enthrall;
Hortense, of love, for my part I declare,
He is the least deceiving god of all.
