I have no graves to decorate on this day The graves of my dear dead ones are too far away In the ocean they are hidden And their passage is forbidden So all that I can do for them is weep and pray. On Memorial Day I go to some distant shore There I sit and listen to the ocean roar And while my tears are falling I hear a sad voice calling Help! O save me from the death that I abhor. But help was far beyond my power The waves were rising high as Babel's tower All I could do was cry While I watched my loved ones die Beneath the wavesthe graves where I can place no flower. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORIAL DAY by JOSEPHINE MILES MEMORIAL DAY FOR THE WAR DEAD by YEHUDA AMICHAI MEMORIAL DAY by MICHAEL ANANIA AN ODE ON THE UNVEILING OF THE SHAW MEMORIA BOSTON COMMON, MAY 31, 1897 by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH FREDERICKSBURG by THOMAS BAILEY ALDRICH THE DEATH OF GRANT by AMBROSE BIERCE MEMORIAL DAY by WILLIAM E.
