FATHERHOOD, by CHARLOTTE LOUISE BERTLESEN First Line: He wore his fatherhood with awe Last Line: The fatherhood of god. Subject(s): Fathers; God; Religion; Theology | ||||||||
He wore his fatherhood with awe. A wistful, shy surprise Was in his heart; and hands achieved A gentleness, nowise Instinct before. He thrilled to touch Of groping hand, and smile, So fleeting, sweet, it slipped away To fairyland, the while. The marvel of this entity This miracle from space Grew day by day, and knit him close To all the human race. He yearned for higher reaches now; Winged feet scarce touched the sod; Through brooding parenthood, he sensed The Fatherhood of God. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MYSTIC BOUNCE by TERRANCE HAYES MATHEMATICS CONSIDERED AS A VICE by ANTHONY HECHT UNHOLY SONNET 11 by MARK JARMAN SHINE, PERISHING REPUBLIC by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE COMING OF THE PLAGUE by WELDON KEES A LITHUANIAN ELEGY by ROBERT KELLY BALLADE OF MID-WINTER NIGHTS by CHARLOTTE LOUISE BERTLESEN |
