MEMORY, by ANNETTE BETZ First Line: In this distant land of dust-covered olives Last Line: Here your spirit dwells with me. Subject(s): Memory | |||
In this distant land of dust-covered olives And white roads, long and hot, Where arches rise against a sun-purged sky, And where gray columns sing an endless song, Here in this land you come to me. In this vast open court Where ruined walls rise high and dim, Where moonlight falls through great blank windows Upon this arena of the past, Here in the night you come to me. In this strange land of life and death, This sepulcher of ages past, Where great ones lie so meek and low In half-forgotten tombs of stone, Here your spirit dwells with me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MEMORY AS A HEARING AID by TONY HOAGLAND THE SAME QUESTION by JOHN HOLLANDER FORGET HOW TO REMEMBER HOW TO FORGET by JOHN HOLLANDER ON THAT SIDE by LAWRENCE JOSEPH MEMORY OF A PORCH by DONALD JUSTICE BEYOND THE HUNTING WOODS by DONALD JUSTICE ANOTHER DARK LADY by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON |
