MOUNTAIN, by
First Line: Like eternal dust it sweeps
Last Line: This mountain stands, this oldest thing is youth.
Subject(s): Youth

Like eternal dust it sweeps
Into mounds, and with a mighty lift
Builds upon primal rocks, and reeks
Of power as a new God's gifts,
A new God whose unfettered strength
Admits no rivalry, and sees no fears
But stands before its vassals unafraid
Omnipotent with years.

When last the winds of hell shall swirl around
And empires fall, and in the wood the trees
Shall bend before, and all the nations weep
Dust stands alone, dust sovereign over these
Poor petty things which quake and fall with truth
This mountain stands, this oldest thing is youth.
