THE TWIN STARS, by JOEL BLAU First Line: Two stars are shining in the skies Last Line: Who will pronounce the blessing? Subject(s): God; Heaven; Jews; Sabbath; Paradise; Judaism; Sunday | ||||||||
TWO stars are shining in the skies, Like twins they are united; They look like God's own beaming eyes In distant darkness lighted. Like tapers on the Sabbath eve That mother kindles for us Are there then Sabbaths up on high And real eyes gleaming o'er us? If God Almighty's eyes they are, Their soft glance is caressing; But if they're only Sabbath lamps, Who will pronounce the blessing? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DAT GAL O' MINE by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON SUNDAY: NEW GUINEA by KARL SHAPIRO SABBATHS: 2001 by WENDELL BERRY SUNDAYSUNDAYSUNDAYSUNDAYSUNDAY by PAUL BLACKBURN THE SABBATH OF THE SOUL by ANNA LETITIA BARBAULD |
