THE PEACE OF COLLEGE, by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE First Line: So forceful are the giant elms, the hills Last Line: Where strive the millions of humanity. Subject(s): Dartmouth College; Scholarship & Scholars; Universities & Colleges; Youth | ||||||||
SO forceful are the giant elms, the hills, That this sharp bell which strikes the passing hours Disturbs not their controlling peace which stills All sense of strife beneath the college towers. Thus youth hears not the faint and far away Sad cry of life sadder than God's great sea Nor knows what bitter conflicts rage to-day, Where strive the millions of humanity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN A MEMORY by HARRY RANDOLPH BLYTHE |
