The avaricious sun dripped no gold
But hung like a golden Chinese lantern
In the shimmering, morning fog
Over the awakening city...

At the sun-silvered noon hour,
Yvonne dimly remembers
The ascending fog
Or scarves of billowing, grey chiffon
Flung upon the urban domes,
Upon the urban skyscrapers,
Upon the urban domes,
Upon the urban spires...

The cathedral chimes were ringing
When the seeming reality became unreality
In the ascension of a shimmering, city fog...
