HINC LACHRIMAE; OR THE AUTHOR TO AURORA: 21, by WILLIAM BOSWORTH Poet's Biography First Line: The firstlings of my flock to her I gave Last Line: Too silly shepherd so to be belov'd. Alternate Author Name(s): William Boxworth Subject(s): Courtship; Gifts & Giving | ||||||||
The firstlings of my flock to her I gave, Twice happy flock to send your presents thither, Thrice happy flock, for she the last shall have, The last was hers, I sent them both together. She took them both, and with a gentle eye, (Where courtesy and grace together lay, As loath to rob, yet loather to deny) Show'd on the hills her willingness to stay; Blest be the time when first her love I mov'd, Too silly shepherd so to be belov'd. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE GIVEAWAY by PHYLLIS MCGINLEY A VALENTINE FOR ERNEST MANN by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE SO IT'S TODAY by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR EVERYBODY KNOWS by DAVID IGNATOW ON VIOLET'S WAFERS, SENT ME WHEN I WAS ILL by SIDNEY LANIER TO MY CLASS: ON CERTAIN FRUITS AND FLOWERS SENT ...
