NIGHT WIND, by COE BOTKIN First Line: There is a song in the night wind Last Line: In marsh nest. Subject(s): Birds; Herons | |||
There is a song in the night wind, Sweet to little green herons In marsh nest. (It might have been harsh Had the marsh bird sinned.) Sing! Sing solo If you must, but -- Sing! Sing with the night wind. Fuse your song with carols of the marsh dark Through the fragrant fern dusk. Mingle yourself with the fern dusk; Let the night wind chant a psalm to your soul Singing, thinking silence -- The lonely last silence, With the quietness of a little green heron In marsh nest. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HERONS IN WINTER IN THE FROZEN MARSH by MARY OLIVER POEM OF THE ONE WORLD by MARY OLIVER THE GREAT BLUE HERON by CAROLYN KIZER |
