DESERT WATERCOLOR, by RUBY BOWEN First Line: Green of the palo verde Last Line: With a misted mantle of desert stars. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
Green of the palo verde, Purple of distant peaks, Gold of a desert sunset, An artist's palette streaks. Flame of the ocotillo, Blue of the wind-swept sage, Blush of a desert's dawning, Grey of the twilight shades. An artist's model -- coyote Silhouetted 'gainst the stars Wild horses in mountain pastures Without a need of bars. Leap of a black-tailed rabbit, Venom of coiling snake, Dawn is a mesquite thicket As mating roadrunners wake. The desert artist pictures, But, ere night his canvas mars, Drapes His work in the coming dusk With a misted mantle of desert stars. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER |
