IN A GRAVE-YARD, by WILLIAM STANLEY BRAITHWAITE Poet's Biography First Line: In calm fellowship they sleep Last Line: Dark of night, and light of sun. Subject(s): Cemeteries; Graveyards | ||||||||
IN calm fellowship they sleep Where the graves are dark and deep, Where nor hate nor fraud nor feud Mar their perfect brotherhood. After all was done they went Into dreamless sleep, content, That the years would pass them by, Sightless, soundless, where they lie. Wines and roses, song and dance, Have no portion in their trance -- The four seasons are as one, Dark of night, and light of sun. | Discover our poem explanations - click here!Other Poems of Interest...MEDITATIONS IN A CEMETERY by MAXWELL BODENHEIM POEM FOR MY TWENTIETH BIRTHDAY by KENNETH KOCH THERE IS ALWAYS A LITTLE WIND by TED KOOSER JEWISH GRAVEYARDS, ITALY by PHILIP LEVINE SAILING HOME FROM RAPALLO by ROBERT LOWELL THE HILL ABOVE THE MINE by MALCOLM COWLEY |
