A SPECK ON THE DOT, by BERTON BRALEY Poet's Biography First Line: Maybe this world is the tiniest dot Last Line: I've got all eternity. Subject(s): Earth; Life Change Events; World | ||||||||
Maybe this world is the tiniest dot In the limitless field of space But at present it's all of the world I've got And a curious sort of place; And though I've been over its realms a bit, There's plenty more left to see; It may be a dot in the infinite But a sizable dot to me! Yes, I'm only a speck on the dot, they say, But little enough I care, I'm a speck that moves in its own sweet way On the trails that I choose to fare; And as long as the world has sights to view Or mysteries left to know, I'll do the things that a speck can do And go where a speck can go. So this infinitesimal dot, the World, Seems wondrously big and strange With the torrents of life about it swirled, And its dramas that shift and change; It'll take me all of my years to trace The trails that are calling me. And as for the trip through the rest of space I've got all eternity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BROKEN BALANCE by ROBINSON JEFFERS SUBJECTED EARTH by ROBINSON JEFFERS GEOMETAPHYSICS by MARGARET AVISON NIAGARA by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS SOPHISTICATION by CONRAD AIKEN I SEE CHILE IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR by AGHA SHAHID ALI WASHING OUR HANDS OF THE REST OF AMERICA by MARVIN BELL THE EARTH IS A LIVING THING by LUCILLE CLIFTON |
