MATRIMONIAL MELODIES: 4. AMPLE, by BERTON BRALEY Poet's Biography First Line: Why should I buy a dinner jacket? Last Line: The old one did all right for me! Subject(s): Old Age | ||||||||
Why should I buy a dinner jacket? The old one's good enough for me; I cannot see why I should sack it, It fits me still, you must agree. My figure still isalmostslender The way it was at twenty-three; That coat may lack its pristine splendor But it is good enough for me. It may not have each pleat and placket That present fashion may decree, But gosh, it's still a dinner jacket And plenty good enough for me! Yes, yes, I'll roll it up and pack it With my old junk. But I can't see Why I should buy a dinner jacket, The old one did all right for me! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AT EIGHTY I CHANGE MY VIEW by DAVID IGNATOW FAWN'S FOSTER-MOTHER by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE DEER LAY DOWN THEIR BONES by ROBINSON JEFFERS OLD BLACK MEN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A WINTER ODE TO THE OLD MEN OF LUMMUS PARK, / MIAMI, FLORIDA by DONALD JUSTICE AFTER A LINE BY JOHN PEALE BISHOP by DONALD JUSTICE TO HER BODY, AGAINST TIME by ROBERT KELLY SONG FROM A COUNTRY FAIR by LEONIE ADAMS |
