WHOM EARTH HAS TAUGHT: REVELATION, by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS First Line: Scarcely less sensitive than soil to rules Last Line: And ponder on, where summer went to seed. | ||||||||
Scarcely less sensitive than soil to rules Set down in older texts than men have penned, He has no need to seek from troubled schools What cloudy light to husbandry they lend; Nor need of revelation more than rind And pod repeat where summer went her way, Leaving with them a meaning for his mind Beyond the words of wisdom that men say. An item of atomic thrift, to be Included in the audit of the year -- Accrediting to Earth's frugality A husk-enfolded store -- was entered here In russet lettering for him to read And ponder on, where summer went to seed. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IN AUTUMN TONES by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS OLD HOUSE by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS PASTURES by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS WHOM EARTH HAS TAUGHT: HERITAGE by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS WHOM EARTH HAS TAUGHT: PROSPICENCE by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS WHOM EARTH HAS TAUGHT: RENEWALS by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS WINTER TREES by MARGARET PERKINS BRIGGS FONTAINEBLEAU (AUTUMN) by SARA TEASDALE |
