Nature without a plan? Nay, a mute schemer, Nature may throw off Man, Man the blasphemer. Why not? She is no mother Of endless patience: She hath abolished other Types, tribes and nations. Wits, warmth, and wine and corn, And rule she gave him; Answered with rage and scorn, Why should she save him? Let him but run his course, Sans bit or bridle, And by intestine force Fall, suicidal No trump or sword of flame, No books of judgment, No writ against his name, Simply dislodgement. | Discover our poem explanations - click here!Other Poems of Interest...PORT OF EMBARKATION by RANDALL JARRELL GREATER GRANDEUR by ROBINSON JEFFERS FAMILY GROUP by ARCHIBALD MACLEISH THE BRITISH COUNTRYSIDE IN PICTURES by JAMES MCMICHAEL READING MY POEMS FROM WORLD WAR II by WILLIAM MEREDITH AMONG THE LAKES by CHARLES WILLIAM BRODRIBB AN EPITAPH (AFTER THE GREEK EPIGRAMS) by CHARLES WILLIAM BRODRIBB |
